Sushant Singh Rajput suicide: Sanjay Raut questions investigation, Ram Kadam asks why pressure Mumbai Police

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut wrote an article in Saamna, the Shiv Sena party mouthpiece, which has not gone down well with everyone. In the article, which is about actor Sushant Singh Rajput taking his own life, Raut says, “Sushant embraced death in the grip of despair. Was the cause of his depression really commercial? This is not 100 per cent accurate.”

Raut lashed out at media and accused it of converting a death into a festival. “A film producer says that he knew that Sushant would commit suicide. What did he do to save him?” asks Raut, going on to add, “When will the Sushant suicide trial be over? Cannot be said. After the death of Sushant, many people in the field broke their silence. But did this reveal the truth of the matter? It does not seem so. What is left to be investigated in this episode and what exactly is police investigating in this case? This actor was not working for some time. His mental state was not fit, in the same desperation of failure, he embraced death by hanging himself in his house at Bandra. But through this, the mafia and nepotism in Bollywood are out.”

However, Raut adds that there are many who struggle in Bollywood every day. But to say that Rajput committed suicide because of a few people putting roadblocks for him, is not right. If this was true, then at least two actors would commit suicide every day, says Raut.

According to Raut, Rajput had contracts with 6 producers when he committed suicide. Elaborating further, Raut says that after making Thackeray, Bal Thackeray's biopic, he was planning to make a biopic on George Fernandes. For this, out of the two names selected, one was that of Rajput himself, according to Raut. After watching him in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Raut felt that Sushant was fit for the role. But, Raut says, he was later ‘told’ that Sushant was suffering from depression.

With all this, Raut claims that this is a clear case of suicide. He then goes on to question the police investigation. He says, “Sushant had changed many psychiatrists but nothing helped him. He left no suicide note, but in spite of that people are being questioned for 11 hours. Why? Police has asked for Rajput’s contract with Yashraj Films. What evidence will they get from this? Many actresses with whom he was linked have been called by police. This was not needed at all.”

Raut says, “What will a psychiatrist do for a person who has lost the will to live? This entire experiment of psychiatrists was like the cacophony created by Baba Ramdev about his medicine to deal with corona. Indore’s Bhaiyuji Maharaj committed suicide. What did he lack in his life?”

Raut proclaims that psychiatrists are of no use. One has to struggle with oneself to stay alive. With this, Raut points at the suicides by others whose files have been closed by police within 24 hours; while even after a week, Rajput’s file is not being closed by the police.

BJP leader Ram Kadam reacted sharply to the article. Kadam said, “Maharashtra's Chief Minister and his wife, who runs a paper, through Saamana, has been questioning the police over why they are carrying on with the investigation. When the Chief Minister's own newspaper raises doubts over Mumbai Police's work, puts pressure on them, then it's a simple message — just do away with the investigation. What is the reason behind this newspaper pressuring the Mumbai Police?"
