LinkedIn new feature will now help users to spot fake profiles on the platform

Making user networking sites safe and secure has always been a top priority for companies, including Meta, Twitter and others. Problems like fake profiles and related spamming have significantly increased in the last few years, and detecting fake users has always been a serious deal for the platform and the users too. To combat the same problem, the professional networking site LinkedIn has now announced a new feature which will help its users detect fake profiles.
LinkedIn has announced the new 'About this profile' feature which will help users get more insights of their user profile. LinkedIn will be using AI generated profile images and prompts to help users scan profiles and check if they are real or spam. The new feature will give more details of the user profile including when it was created, when it was last updated and more.

With the help of the new feature, LinkedIn users will now be able to check on the potential red flags of scammers by checking on work history, profile updates clubbed with other details. LinkedIn will roll out the ' About this profile' feature globally in the coming weeks.

Users will be able to see the new ' About this profile' feature on the main profile page. Once the feature is available-

- Go to user profile

-- Tap on the three dots option available at the right of message option.
- You will see the 'About this profile' option under other profile details.

The 'About this Profile' feature will show you when the account was created, when it was last updated and whether it has been verified using a work email or phone number.

Significantly, LinkedIn is also removing fake user accounts and reported profiles to make the platform safer. According to a report by CNN Business, LinkedIn has " already removed 96% of fake accounts using automated defenses. In the second half of 2021, the company removed 11.9 million fake accounts at registration and another 4.4 million before they were ever reported by other users, according to its latest transparency report."

In addition to the new feature, LinkedIn will also make the verification option available for more people. Till date, only select LinkedIn users got the verification tag. But soon the platform will be widely open to help people verify and authenticate their identity on the platform.
