Ahead of Pixel 7 launch, new unknown Google phone with high-end specifications spotted

Google Pixel 7 series is coming later this year. At the Google IO earlier this year, the company revealed the next flagship phones, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, and their launch date alongside the Pixel 6a. A new report, however, suggests that it is not just those two phones in the offing. Google could be working on two more phones and one of them is likely a high-end phone. The speculation is that it could be Google’s upcoming flagship phone. Maybe the foldable Pixel? Maybe the Google Pixel 7 Pro Max?
As reported by 9to5Google, two new code names were found in the publicly available Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code of the display specifications of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. These are feline names — Felix and Lynx — and they are not associated with the upcoming Pixel 7 series. The report says that one of these is related to the Pixel 7a, which will likely arrive next year, but the other one could be Google’s high-end phone. While the speculation is that this could be the foldable Pixel phone, some people believe that it may be a more powerful version of the Pixel 7 Pro. Just to give it a name, we are calling it the Pixel 7 Pro Max, maybe.

Folks at 9to5Google found "C10" and "P10" mentioned in the code, and they were easily identified as the references to "Cheetah" and "Panther", which are names for the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7. But there was a third reference, "G10," and it could mean that Google has been working on support for a completely different display. This could be the foldable display that, according to several rumours, will power Google's first foldable phone.

According to the report, this newly spotted G10 device "should be" powered by a Tensor chip since there are references to the Exynos processor. It will run on Android, but it will be optimised for foldable phones. The references to G10 also hint at a 120Hz display, which means it is not a Pixel A-series phone. The resolution of the display is mentioned to be 1440x3120 pixels, which might work for a foldable display, if not a high-end phone. Additionally, it has also been discovered that the display of the G10 will be made by BOE — a Chinese display manufacturer that provides display components to Apple sometimes.

Whatever information there is on the G10 is, however, not sufficient. This could be a display of a high-end phone or a foldable phone in the Pixel lineup that Google has managed to keep hidden so far. We might find out more about this mysterious phone and this display in the coming days.
