More leaks around Google's upcoming Pixel smartphones have emerged, which impart previously unknown information about the devices. The revelations hint at the possible performance capabilities of the Pixel 6 as well as its colour options upon its availability in the market.
The new speculations have been made in a new podcast by Max Weinbach - a popular tipster and technology journalist. The podcast shares light on Google's Whitechapel chipset that will power the new lineup of Pixel phones later this year.
As per the details from the podcast highlighted in a GSM Arena report, the Whitechapel processor will not be as powerful as the Snapdragon 888 or Samsung's Exynos 2100. The podcast mentions that even though it will be based on Samsung's 5nm technology, it will not quite match up to the other flagship processors.
Instead, it will lie in a sweet spot between the Snapdragon 865 and 888 in terms of raw performance. Google, however, will equip the processor with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and an Image Signal Processor (ISP) inside. These processing units will help with computational photography to produce better-looking images.
Since Pixel phones are renowned for their photographic capabilities, NPU and ISP will come as handy additions to the upcoming models. The camera setup further enabling Pixel 6 to live up to the expectations will likely include a 50-megapixel main sensor paired with an 8-megapixel 5x zoom camera and an ultrawide lens.
In addition to this, Max confirms that the Pixel 6 will come with a Full HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate, first for any Google phone. Speaking about the colour options to be available, he clears that the orange variant of Pixel 6, as seen in recent renders, will resemble the colour peach more closely than the pink and gold combo. He also mentions a green, silver and black design to be in the works.
Other than the Pixel 6, speculations were made on the Pixel 5a and its pricing. As per Max, the device will be priced higher than the price point of Pixel 4a at the time of its launch. The Pixel phone will also be devoid of wireless charging support.
A potential release date for the Pixel 5a was hinted at in the podcast, and as per it, the device might be launched in October alongside the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. In case Google continues to face a chip shortage, it might be released in November alongside the Google Watch.
