Motorola Edge S Pioneer edition with Snapdragon 870 SoC launched: Price, specifications



Motorola has quietly launched a new edition of its Motorola Edge S in China. The company has unveiled the Motorola Edge S Pioneer Edition. The new edition is a different colour variant of the smartphone which was launched in China in January. There is no noticeable change in terms of the specifications. Interestingly, the price of the Moto Edge S Pioneer edition is cheaper than the Moto Edge S. The new variant has already gone on sale in China and comes in a single configuration.

Motorola Edge S is the first Motorola smartphone to use Snapdragon 800 series chipset. This is being touted as the cheapest flagship device being sold in China. The smartphone comes with four camera sensors at the rear, a sizeable battery and many other interesting features. So let us have a look at the price of the smartphone and key specifications of the device.

Moto Edge S Pioneer Edition: Price and availability

Motorola Edge S Pioneer Edition is being sold in China for CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 22,600) for the single 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. Whereas the other two colour variants including the Emerald Light and Mist are priced at CNY 1,999 for 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. So basically if you buy the vanilla colour variant, you can get the 8GB variant at the price of the 6GB variant of the Edge S. The smartphone is available for purchase on the official website of Motorola and jd.com.

Moto Edge S Pioneer Edition: Specifications

There is absolutely no change in the specifications of the Pioneer edition and the Moto Edge S. The smartphone features a 6.7-inch LCD with a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. It comes with support for HDR10. There is also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Moto Edge S is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The processor is the latest by Qualcomm, and it is being touted as the upgraded version of the Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC. The Edge S houses a 5,000mAh battery with support for a 20W fast charge.

In terms of optics, the Motorola Edge S features a square-shaped camera island that houses four camera sensors. The camera island includes a 64MP primary sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle macro sensor, a 2MP portrait depth-of-field sensor, and a ToF stereoscopic depth sensor. On the front, there is 6-megapixel and 8-megapixel camera sensors for better selfies.
