Cheetahs cannot roar and instead, purr continuously. Watch viral video

Cheetahs are scary but are you aware of the fact that such big cats cannot roar? If you are finding this hard to believe, we found a video on social media that will clear your doubt. Nature And Animals, a Twitter account that posts super cute videos of animals and birds, shared the clip on Thursday and it has gone viral.

WHAT DOES THE VIRAL VIDEO SHOW?

In what appears to be inside an enclosure in a sanctuary of sorts, two cheetahs purred while facing the camera. The video was seemingly recorded by tourists.

"Hey, you. This is important. Cheetahs don't roar, they meow like housecats," is the caption of the video.

This particular clip has been viewed over 5,000 times and collected several likes and retweets. "Wow, that voice does not make them look scary at all. They look very cute," a user said in the comments section.

Cheetahs are unable to roar because the bones in its voice box form a fixed structure, with divided vocal cords that vibrate with both in and out breaths. Due to this, cheetahs can purr continuously but are not able to roar.
