IPL 2020: Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers capable of losing a game that is to be won, says Virender Sehwag

The clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday was an exciting one that Virat Kohli-led side eventually managed to win narrowly in the Super Over.

There have been numerous analysis of the game since then, with several former cricketers commenting on who should have come out to bat in the Super Over for Mumbai Indians and who should not have.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh could not believe that Ishan Kishan was not brought on by Mumbai after the terrific innings that the young batsman played out just minutes before the Super Over.

“I think Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan should have come to bat in the super over! They were set bodies, were warm (sic),” he said.

But without a doubt, one of the most interesting analysis of the game was given by former India batsman Virender Sehwag, on his daily video segment titled ‘Viru ki Baithak’.

Looking back at the thriller, Virender Sehwag was critical of the RCB bowling, and particularly the bowling in the death overs.

“In life, you can choose whom you want to trust and not trust, but one thing that one should never trust in life is the death bowling of Royal Challengers Bangalore, because a match that they should have easily won, they took it to the Super Over,” Sehwag said in Hindi in his usual humorous manner.

The former India opener was all-praise for the young RCB batsman Devdutt Padikkal, saying that he seems to be the batsman that the team has need at the top for the last couple of years.

He was also impressed by the way South African AB de Villiers batted for the RCB and said, “AB de Villiers seems have just one goal while he is batting, and that is to smack the ball out of the stadium.”

Sehwag also credited the RCB opening bowlers and in particular Washington Sundar for making life difficult for Rohit Sharma and his team.

Sundar bowled an amazing spell in which he gave away just 12 runs in his four overs and also scalped the important wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma.

But he added that once Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard got going in the final overs, where they hit a record 90 runs in the last five overs, then the rest of the RCB bowling machinery seemed to have given up.

However, he said that Navdeep Saini in the Super Over was quite brilliant.

“Even though the batsman had scored above 200 runs, but the credit for the RCB victory should go to [Navdeep] Saini and [Washington] Sundar, otherwise RCB could have lost this game, Sehwag added.
