Assam: Clash erupts due to Covid-19 lockdown violation in Nagaon district, 12 injured

At least 12 people, including women, were injured in a clash between two groups in Assam's Nagaon district amid the Covid-19 lockdown.
The incident took place on Saturday evening at the Kandhulimari Bazar area, Nagaon, which comes under Dhing Police Station.
According to the media reports, a local group flouted lockdown guidelines by re-opening markets at the Bazar area.
Clashes erupted after a few locals, including the secretary of Village Defence Party (VDP) of Kandhulimari, opposed the act and informed the local police.
VDP secretary of the area was also injured in the clash.
The injured were rushed to the nearby hospital.
According to the VDP secretary, some locals violated lockdown guidelines by re-opening markets. The matter was immediately reported to the police.
"Later, the market was shut down by police. Infuriated by the act, people who opened the market attacked us when we visited the area," the VDP secretary said.
Four among the injured have been referred to Nagaon Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, Assam has reported 42 Covid-19 cases so far and one among them is dead.
Also, 29 coronavirus patients have been discharged so far.
