Motorola Edge 40 with 144Hz curved display, wireless charging launched

After launching a couple of affordable Moto G-series phones, Motorola has officially unveiled the Motorola Edge 40 in India. The phone is touted as the "world's slimmest 5G smartphone with an IP68" rating. The Edge 40 is also the first phone to feature MediaTek Dimensity's 8020 SoC and the first in the segment to offer wireless charging. Despite many first phone claims, the most attractive part is the price. Priced under Rs 30,000, the Edge 40 offers 256GB of internal storage.

The Motorola Edge 40 carries a price tag of Rs 29,999 for the single model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone is offered in three colours - Reseda Green and Eclipse Black in a vegan leather finish and Lunar Blue in PMMA (acrylic glass) finish. The smartphone goes on sale on May 30 on Flipkart and Motorola India channels. It will also be available at partner stores, including Reliance Digital. It is currently available to pre-order on Flipkart.

Motorola has also partnered with Jio to offer customers benefits worth Rs 3,100. This includes 100GB of additional 5G data (10GB per month) worth Rs 1,000 along with partner offers from Ajio, Ixigo, and ET Prime worth Rs 1,050.

Motorola Edge 40 specifications
Curved displays are slowly taking over smartphones in the Rs 30,000 segment, and Motorola is also banking on this display style. While the curved display has its own limitations, there's no denying that they generally offer a premium finish.

Motorola has used a pOLED panel and the 6.5-inch display offers Full-HD resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The variants with a vegan finish are slightly thicker (7.58mm). The variant with the PMMA finish measures 7.49mm, which still makes it one of the thinnest smartphones in the segment. Motorola states the Edge 40 supports HDR10+, Amazon HDR playback, and Netflix HDR playback.

On the back, there's a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS. It also includes a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera with macro vision. The front includes a 32-megapixel camera. Both the rear cameras can record 4K videos at 30fps. The front camera also offers the same capability. As mentioned, the Motorola Egde 40 draws power from MediaTek Dimensity 8020 SoC paired with 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage and 8GB of LPDDR4x.

Other key features of the Edge 40 include 5G, two years of Android updates, and a 4400mAh battery with 68W fast charging. There's support for 15W fast charging too.
