Shikara box office collection Day 1: Vidhu Vinod Chopra film earns Rs 1.2 crore

Shikara is a love story of a Kashmiri Pandit couple.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra's dream project Shikara: The Untold Story of Kashmiri Pandits was released on Friday. Starring newcomers Aadil Khan and Sadia, the film is a love story of a Kashmiri Pandit couple who had to flee the Valley in 1990.
Shikara: The Untold Story of Kashmiri Pandits earned Rs 1.2 crore on Day 1. The release of another big film Malang - starring Disha Patani, Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, and Kunal Kemmu- may affect Shikara's collection.
Touted as a film depicting the plight of Kashmiri Pandits after their mass exodus from the Valley on January 19, 1990, Shikara is a love story of Professor Shiv Kumar Dhar and his wife Shanti. The film narrates how the couple flees the Valley with thousands of other Kashmiri Pandits and started a new life as refugees in their own country.

IndiaToday.in's movie reviewer Jyoti Kanyal gave the film three out of five stars. She wrote, "Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Shikara is a film on the plight of Kashmiri Pandits made with the right amount of sensibility and compassion. While it touches hearts in many parts, it also compels you to question if everything was clearly black and white with no shades of grey. This love story of hope transports you to Chopra's world of romance we witnessed in films like 1942: A Love Story (1994) and Kareeb (1998). But then we have also seen films like Haider and Maachis, which originate from the same land. Shikara doesn't delve deep into the other side of Kashmir, the way we saw these two films do. In that, it certainly leaves you wanting more."
