Huawei is still a few months away from launching its next-generation flagship, the P40 Pro, but we’ve been steadily seeing new renders of the said smartphone. Now, a new series of renders by 9TechEleven, in collaboration with Slashleaks contributor Rodent950, has given us a fresh new look at the entire device, revealing some interesting details about it. According to the new renders, which are reportedly based off Huawei’s official CAD renders of the device, the Huawei P40 Pro looks set to feature an impressive display design that offers a uniformly curved glass not just at the sides, but also at the edges of the display.
This quad-edge panel will seemingly be reinforced by an all-new frame design by Huawei, which will create slight ‘lips’ with the metal frame at the corners. This is reportedly being done so that the curved glass itself is protected in case of accidental falls. Given how brittle curved glass designs can be, it will be important for Huawei to make sure that its flagship smartphone remains sturdy enough to take a few knocks. The display is also said to come with uniformly thin bezels all around, which creates a very thin ‘chin’ at the bottom and makes for pleasant design language. At the top edge of the display, a cutout is seen to house a dual front camera layout.This front camera cutout may house a standard front-facing sensor, as well as an ultra-wide sensor that can accommodate group selfies. To the rear, the usual gradient paint job seems fairly regular. However, to the top left corner, the Huawei P40 Pro is seen to house a five-camera setup, which will be pretty interesting, to say the least. Of the five units, the three-stack vertical layout to the left of the module will reportedly house the high-resolution main sensor, an ultra-wide-angle lens and a 10x optical zoom periscope lens. The right-side vertical stack can be seen housing an LED flash module, while the other two lenses are said to be a 3D time of flight (ToF) sensor for better portraits, and an additional fifth module that might either be a supplementary telephoto unit, or even a dedicated macro photography unit.
The Huawei P40 Pro is certain to feature venerable flagship specifications and run on the company’s new Kirin 990 chipset. RAM variants may range up to 12GB, while native storage can go up to 256GB, or even 512GB. While the P40 Pro may still run on Android 10, it will likely not feature Google’s Play Services on it, and instead, come with Huawei Mobile Services pre-installed. Given this roadblock, it will be interesting to see how many users Huawei manages to convince that its flagship device is worth buying, even without the Google apps ecosystem that it won’t be privy to. The P40 Pro is expected to launch around March 2020, at an event in Paris.
