Unable to buy iPhone 14 Pro? Apple likely to fix stock issues by January 2023

Last month, Apple warned investors and customers that iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would be available in limited quantities and blamed COVID-19 restrictions in China for it. Now, the recent chaos at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou has possibly added to production delay. In other words, if you are looking to buy the iPhone 14 Pro model, you might need to wait, but not for too long.

Apple supplier Foxconn has said that it is working hard to fix the stock-related issues. According to the latest Reuters report, Foxconn expects the COVID-hit Zhengzhou plant to resume production at full capacity between late December and early January. This simply means that if you were unable to grab the iPhone 14 Pro models all this while, your wait could end soon. Finally!

On Monday, Foxconn announced that its revenue in November dropped 11.4 per cent year on year and blamed COVID-19 restrictions for it. The rising COVID cases and movement limitations in China impacted the production of Apple devices big time. "At present, the overall epidemic situation has been brought under control with November being the most affected period," Foxconn said in an official statement. The Apple supplier also plans to hire new employees and gradually restore production capacity to normal. It is said that the government is helping the Apple supplier with the resumption.

The Foxconn Zhengzhou plant has been grappling with COVID-19 restrictions for the last few months, which disrupted production of Apple devices ahead of Christmas and January's Lunar New Year holidays. Due to restrictions, many Foxconn workers either isolated themselves to combat the spread of the virus or left the plant.

For the unaware, Foxconn assembles around 70 per cent of iPhones, and the Zhengzhou plant is said to produce the majority of its premium models, including the iPhone 14 Pro models. Sources close to Foxconn and the entire matter said that "the capacity is now being gradually resumed" with new staff hiring underway. "If the recruitment goes smoothly, it could take around three to four weeks to resume full production," the source said.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly exploring opportunities to diversify its supply chain by shifting the production of high-end iPhones to India. The company is already assembling the vanilla models in the country. Some of these devices are – iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and a few more. Another report suggests that the Cupertino-based tech giant is exploring options to shift some parts of iPad production from China to India. The company hasn’t revealed any official details on the same yet.
