Jio 5G plans will be affordable and most Indians will be able to afford it, says Akash Ambani

PM Narendra Modi has officially launched 5G services in India. The fight is tough between Reliance Jio and Airtel when launching 5G services is concerned. While Jio earlier announced launching 5G services in 4 cities by Diwali, Airtel today said that 8 Indian cities will get 5G starting today. These cities include Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and some more. While none of the operators have clarified how 5G will be priced in India, Jio says its 5G services will be affordable and most Indians will be able to afford it.
RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani and also his son Akash Ambani, in an interview with ANI, said that Jio's plans will be “affordable” and will be “affordable for every Indian, right from devices to services”. Reliance Jio has not revealed any specific details on the 5G plans pricing in India for now.

Launching 5G in India officially, PM Modi said, “Earlier, cost of 1GB data was about Rs 300, it has come down to about Rs 10 per GB now. On average, a person in India consumes 14GB per month. This would have cost about Rs 4200 per month but costs Rs 125-150. It's the efforts of govt that led to this.”

While we wait for Jio and other telecom operators to announce details related to 5G plans, Ambani announced that Jio’s “true” 5G services will reach each and every part of the country by December 2023. From Diwali onwards, 4 cities, including Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai will get access to 5G services by Jio, the company previously confirmed.

Another telecom major, Airtel, announced that it is rolling out 5G services in India starting today. Airtel 5G service is rolling out in 8 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, and a few others. CEO Sunil Mittal said that pan India roll out of Airtel 5G services will be completed by March 2024.
