iPhone 14 Plus sales lower than expected, demand for iPhone 14 Pro models is high
This year, Apple introduced four new iPhone models. These are – the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14 Plus, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. While Apple never reveals sales numbers, some media reports suggest that the iPhone 14 Pro has been very well received when compared to the cheaper iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. A new report, on similar lines, now suggests that iPhone 14 Pro models have received “enthusiastic” responses, but that is not the case for the iPhone 14 and Plus models.
Apple changed its strategy and replaced the mini with the Plus model this year. And with that, the company had great expectations of its newly launched iPhone 14 Plus, which offers a larger display and specifications similar to the iPhone 14. If reports are considered, demand for the iPhone 14 Plus is much lower than expected. In fact, consumers are said to have liked the Pro models a lot more, which also offer better performance and features, and are also priced much higher.
Now, as per the report coming from DigiTimes, the sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are considerably overshadowed by the "enthusiastic" response that the Pro models have received. The report also noted that despite the differences in sales results between the Pro and non-Pro models this year, total shipments of the iPhone 14 series will be almost similar to the iPhone 13 lineup in the same frame last year.
The report further states that if the sales of the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus remain flat even in the next quarter, Apple may cut orders for parts on manufacturing these models. Now, if Apple cuts orders, that could also impact the shipments of the iPhone 14 series by the end of the year.
To recall, soon after the launch of the new iPhones, popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that demand for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is "lackluster" and even worse pre-orders than even iPhone SE 3 and the iPhone 13 mini. On the contrary, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max reportedly continue to see high demand. Hence, Apple is believed to shift production away from the non-Pro models to make more iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
