Waiting for foldable iPhone? New leak suggests delay in Apple’s plans to take on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

Foldable phones are on their way to becoming mainstream and with Samsung leading the pack, that time does not seem far away. But Apple has so far stayed away from the fray and a new report has suggested that it is not in a hurry. The hotly-anticipated foldable iPhone is not coming anytime soon, at least not until 2025, according to Ross Young, who is a credible source of Apple-related developments.
Young, who is the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, has reported that Apple has delayed its plans to launch a foldable iPhone until 2025. If true, the latest development may push Apple even further away from the foldable race, which became competitive only recently after Samsung’s aggressive push through devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z3 Flip.

With plans now delayed until 2025, Apple seems to be taking its sweet time in planning out what its first foldable iPhone should look like. The interesting thing is that Apple does not seem to be taking any pressure that Samsung and other Android phone brands, such as Motorola, Oppo, and Xiaomi, continue to put. “The company does not appear to be in a hurry to enter the foldable smartphone market, and it may even take longer than that,” said Young.

Maybe it is a good decision because foldables, although more popular among consumers than before, are still majorly a novelty. There are still some problems with their display and other issues that foldable devices continue to face and Apple is likely trying to figure out solutions to them so that its foldable iPhone does not meet with the same fate as the first Samsung foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold.

But Apple still believes in foldable devices and the idea of them becoming mainstream in the near future. According to Young, Apple is working on the idea of foldable notebooks. The iPhone maker is reportedly talking to suppliers about exploring this category, but the final product is still many years away, at least later than 2025 when the foldable iPhone is expected.

Young said Apple may be looking at a notebook with a 20-inch foldable screen that can work as both a monitor and a laptop. The display of the notebook would fold from inside to double one half like the keyboard, while, when unfolded, it would work as a monitor with an external keyboard, Young described. He said that even if the foldable notebook is years away, it is good news for the foldable space considering Apple’s capability to shake up any device category it steps into.
