Google Maps for iOS gets two new interactive widgets to ease navigation

Google Maps for iOS is rolling out two interactive widgets that will enhance its users navigation experience. The search widgets will enable users to find places and navigate to and from home and office locations. The updated widgets will also let users look for nearby locations with a single tap and another widget will let users check the traffic conditions and location details. The widgets are present on version 5.74 of Google Maps for iOS
The first search widget is called Find Places Nearby and it will be in a pill-shaped search field that will directly open on the app and keyboard. Google has used the same layout for the Search app and Chrome for this widget. There are shortcuts for Home and Work addresses from where users can access their last visited directions. Google Maps will also let users see Restaurants, Gas, Groceries and Coffee that start a nearby search in a user’s current location.

The second widget for Google Maps is called Know before you go that allows users to see traffic conditions, location details, store opening times, restaurant reviews, among other places.
9to5Google reports that this widget will be a 1x1 square which will show a map of the user's current location with the traffic layer enabled. Users can tap on the available options to navigate the nearby restaurant, ATM, petrol pump, and to get specific addresses on Google Maps

the widgets are available for Google Maps on iPhones and will roll out for iPad soon. The app is available on the App Store. The Google Maps widget can be accessed using the + button either in the Today View or on the Home Screen after downloading the latest version of the app. Until now, Google Maps supports the previous widget format and offered Traffic, Transit Departures (nearby stations), Travel Times (to home and work), and Local Guides. The latest update has the Traffic functionality with the rest to be migrated

Earlier this month, Google Maps for Android started rolling out an Insights tab for its Timeline feature. The new tool will give users a more extensive insight, as the name suggests, into their travelling or movement every month. To get access to the Insights tool, users are required to click on their profile picture in the top right corner and select their timeline from the pop-up menu. The timeline offers options including Day, Trips, Insights, Places, Cities, and World.
