Xiaomi may launch a smartphone with a 200-megapixel camera sensor

Xiaomi could pull off something that not many smartphone manufacturers are planning any time soon. A new report suggests Xiaomi may integrate the massive 200-megapixel sensor on one of its future phones. The 108-megapixel sensors had just started getting mainstream, and now we hear about a 200-megapixel sensor. A fresh leak has popped up to suggest Xiaomi will be the first to feature Samsung's upcoming 200-megapixel sensor. We had first heard about this 200-megapixel a few months ago.

Digital Chat Station and Ice Universe have provided hints about this upcoming sensor 200-megapixel sensor. While they do not confirm that Xiaomi will be the first to use the same, but the ITHome report does. Ice Universe had previously claimed that this particular ISOCELL sensor is being developed by Samsung and has a 0.64-micron pixel.

Apart from these tipsters, WHYLAB had also suggested that Samsung is working on a 200-megapixel sensor that measures 1/ 1.37-inch and has 1.28-micron pixels. Further, the tipster claims that it will support 4-in-1 and 16-in-1 pixel binning technology to reduce noise in the pictures. It is also supposed to be capable of recording 16K videos.

The same tipster had also said that the sensor might debut on the ZTE Axon 30 Pro 5G. However, that device shipped with Samsung's 64-megapixel sensor.

A couple of weeks ago, Let'sGoDigital's Mark Peters shared renders of the Samsung Galaxy S22 features a 200-megapixel OLYMPUS camera. Reports had popped about Samsung partnering with OLYMPUS to develop future Galaxy phones. This leak was further confirmed by a couple of credible tipsters. However, we suggest you take this information with a pinch of salt as there's no confirmation around it.

Smartphone camera sensors have come a long way through, and it's nice to see that these sensors have started making it to mid-range phones too. The potential of the current 108-megapixel hasn't been completely harnessed yet, still, it will be interesting to find out what this new 200-megapixel sensor brings to the table.
