Realme 8 Pro 108-megapixel camera phone launched in India, Realme 8 debuts alongside

Realme 8 Pro is the brand new smartphone from Realme and its most interesting feature is the 108MP camera. The Realme 8 Pro brings what once was restricted to premium flagships to under Rs 20,000, the 108MP camera. But it is not the first one to do that. Recently, Xiaomi unleashed the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max into the market, shortly after the Mi 10i -- both of which have the same 108MP sensor. It is just that the competition is increasing and customers are in for wider options.

The 108MP camera is basically what defines this phone because specifications-wise, the Realme 8 Pro is not a big upgrade over last year’s Realme 7 Pro. And that is also the reason why there is no price bump with the Realme 8 Pro. Apart from the Realme 8 Pro, the company also announced the launch of Realme 8, which is a vanilla model with fewer bells and whistles. For example, this phone does not have a 108MP camera.

Realme 8 Pro, Realme 8 price in India
The Realme 8 Pro comes in two variants, the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage version costs Rs 17,999 while the higher variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 19,999. The phone comes in Infinite Blue and Infinite Black colours. There is a third Illuminating Yellow colour variant, as well but it will be available later in limited stock.

Realme 8, on the other hand, comes in three variants. The 4GB RAM model costs Rs 14,999, the 6GB RAM variant costs Rs 15,999, and finally, the top variant with 8GB RAM is priced at Rs 16,999. It comes in Cyber Silver and Cyber Black colours.

The first sale for the Realme 8 Pro begins March 25 while the Realme 8 goes on its first sale on March 25 via Flipkart and Realme online store. There is a 10 per cent instant discount on ICICI Bank cards. There is the Realme Upgrade program benefit applicable to both phones where you only need to pay 70 per cent of the total amount while trading in an old, used phone.

Realme also launched a new smart bulb called Realme LED Smart Bulb for Rs 799 for the 9W version and Rs 999 for the 12W variant and an electronic weighing scale dubbed Realme Smart Scale for Rs 1,999. The first sales begin March 30 on Flipkart and Realme online store.

Realme 8 Pro specifications
Realme 8 Pro is the successor of last year’s Realme 7 Pro but the changes over the 7 Pro are restricted mostly to the cameras. So let us talk about cameras first. The Realme 8 Pro has a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor as the main camera. It has a 1/1.52” sensor with F1.88 aperture. There is an 8MP F2.25 sensor with a 119-degree field of view, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP black-and-white camera. And for selfies, the Realme 8 Pro has a 16MP in-display camera. Realme has improved the Starry Mode and introduced the new Tilt-Shift Mode on the Realme 8 Pro.

On the front, you have the 6.4-inch Full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with 60Hz refresh rates, which means you do not have super smooth scrolling on it. The display supports 1000 nits of brightness and the screen-to-body ratio is 90.8 per cent. The display also has a fingerprint sensor. The Realme 8 Pro is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor inside, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and there is a dedicated microSD card slot, as well. Realme 8 Pro comes preloaded with Android 11-based Realme UI 2.0.

For power, the Realme 8 Pro uses a 4500mAh battery with 50W fast charging. It is a small downgrade over the 65W fast charging that last year’s Realme 7 Pro came with. The phone has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. And the audio is powered by Hi-Res Audio.

Realme 8 specifications
Realme 8 is a watered-down model that lets go of things such as the 108MP camera. What you get on the Realme 8 is a 64MP main camera. Accompanying this sensor is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP black-and-white sensor. For selfies, the phone has the same 16MP camera inside the punch-hole. The Realme 8 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G95 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You can even expand the storage using a microSD card on a dedicated slot. The Realme 8 has a 6.4-inch Full-HD+ Super AMOLED display, a major bump-up over last year's Realme 7 LCD. And it uses a larger 5000mAh battery with 30W fast charging.
