Nokia 9.3 PureView launch reportedly delayed to 2021 now

Nokia 9.3 PureView has succeeded in being the most anticipated and elusive device this year. The flagship device from HMD Global, the one that was supposed to sit next to some other flagships like Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, iPhone 12, and OnePlus 8T, has been further delayed until 2021 now. The latest chunk of information arrives days after it was reported that HMD Global’s flagship smartphone will launch sometime in December, after multiple delays already.

As reported by Nokia anew on Twitter, the launch of Nokia 9.3 PureView, which is expected to pack some top-of-the-line specifications, has been postponed to the first half of 2021. Even with this new information, there is too much ambiguity around the launch date. The first half of next year will mean the Nokia 9.3 PureView could launch anytime between January and June, delaying the smartphone further by more than eight months. The tipster has said that the new development was confirmed by an internal source, and that it is not a “joke”.

For what it is worth, the fate of Nokia 9.3 PureView seems dicey at this point. HMD Global has confirmed that the phone exists when the company’s chief product officer Juho Sarvikas revealed the company is taking note of the colour variants of the Nokia 9.3 PureView. But nothing was confirmed about the launch of the phone. The rumour mill has, however, been busy churning out the information that has so far been false, especially about the launch of the phone if not anything else.

From March to December, the Nokia 9.3 PureView launch has teetered between different timelines at once. The final rumour that was received said the Nokia 9.3 PureView would launch sometime in December after the previous rumour that Nokia 9.3 PureView is set for November launch turned out to be untrue. While these launch timelines have been vague ever since the first rumour hit, the specifications of the Nokia 9.3 PureView might not be false, after all.

HMD Global is reportedly working with high-quality and advanced hardware for the Nokia 9.3 PureView. The smartphone could come with an OLED display with a high refresh rate, integrating an in-display fingerprint sensor and an under-display camera. The last one, particularly, is a novel technology currently under testing by several mobile phone companies, such as Oppo and Xiaomi, while a first commercial device was introduced by ZTE. Nokia could also be devising methods to include this sensor on the phone.

Moreover, the Nokia 9.3 PureView is said to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. But now since the phone is indefinitely delayed, HMD Global could opt for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 processor. Maybe this could be the reason why the company may have delayed the Nokia 9.3 PureView to next year, if not beyond that. There will be upgrades to the camera of the phone, but the company will retain the Penta-lens setup from the Nokia 9 PureView. The Zeiss optics will also be available on the phone.

It is a very uncertain future for the Nokia 9.3 PureView, according to the rumours floating around. This only makes things worse for the company because all the major companies have already launched their flagship devices. HMD Global needs to be sure about its strategy for the Nokia 9.3 PureView if it wants to stay afloat in the flagship category. But if it wants to cater to entry-level, budget, and mid-range segments only, maybe HMD Global does not even need the Nokia 9.3 PureView.
