Anew advertisement released by Bingo, featuring Ranveer Singh, has offended Sushant Singh Rajput's fans owing to a particular 'scientific' monologue that the Gully Boy actor said in the commercial. Bingo is a brand that manufactures chips and snacks, and is owned by ITC Limited. Soon after the ad surfaced, Sushant Singh Rajput's fans trended #BoycottBingo online and demanded owners to remove the advert from social media. Ranveer Singh was censured as well.
Meanwhile, ITC Foods responded to the controversy with a statement and said that the advert is not aimed at "making fun of a late Bollywood celebrity" as opposed to posts that are circulating on social media.
WHAT IS THE NEW BINGO AD ALL ABOUT?
In the new Bingo advertisement, Ranveer Singh, busy munching on a packet of chips, attends a family gathering. At the meet, relatives and elders pester Ranveer constantly with questions about his future plans. Ranveer, thereafter, responds with a scientific answer of sorts that consists of words and phrases such as "paradoxical photons, algorithms and aliens ki feelings". Flabbergasted, his relatives refrain from questioning Ranveer further.
WHAT DID ITC FOODS SAY IN THEIR STATEMENT?
Soon after #BoycottBingo caused a storm online, ITC Foods responded with a statement, and said that the advert was filmed in 2019, almost a year before Sushant Singh Rajput's death. Its release was delayed in the wake of the novel coronavirus crisis.
"A completely false, erroneous and mischievous message is being posted/circulated alleging that an advertisement of Bingo! is making fun of a late Bollywood celebrity. Such kind of erroneous messages are knowingly spreading falsehoods. We request you to not fall prey to such mischievous posts. The recent Bingo! advertisement was shot more than a year ago in October 2019. It is being aired this year because of delay in the launch of Bingo! Mad Angles Cheese Nachos and Bingo! Mad Angles Pizza due to the Covid-19 pandemic," a spokesperson for ITC Foods said in the statement.
WHO IS SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT?
Sushant Singh Rajput, a renowned actor, made his debut in the entertainment industry with the television series Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil. Pavitra Rishta is one of Sushant's popular serials. Kai Po Che! marked his debut in Bollywood in 2013, and he subsequently appeared in the films Shuddh Desi Romance, PK, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath and Chhichhore.
Dil Bechara, co-starring Sanjana Sanghi, was his last release.
WHO IS RANVEER SINGH?
Ranveer Singh is a celebrated actor in Bollywood and made his debut with Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010. Lootera, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat and Gully Boy are some of Ranveer's best films. He will appear next in 83 and Jayeshbhai Jordaar.
