IPL can surprise you at any point so we will not take any team lightly: Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer

Delhi Capitals continued their magnificent form in IPL 2020 with another resounding win against the struggling Rajasthan Royals in Sharjah on Friday.

This is their fifth win in six games and with it they are back at the top of the points table in IPL 2020.

For the first time this season, the Delhi Capitals suffered a rare top-order failure when three of their batsmen were back in the dugout within the powerplay overs. But then their middle-order, which until now has not had to do much, came out and resurrected the innings.

Shimron Hetmyer’s 24-ball 45 and Marcus Stoinis’ 30-ball 39 helped them post a total that still looked below par, according to their captain Shreyas Iyer.

“I'm really happy with the way we came out in the second innings. We thought it was an under par score to be honest, but it was stopping on the wicket and the bowlers executed their plans really well,” said Shreyas Iyer in the post-match conversation.

The two overseas batsman for Delhi Capitals got them to 184/8 in their 20 overs. This was the first sub-200 score that was hit at Sharjah in IPL 2020.

Rajasthan Royals continue to struggle

However, with the struggling Rajasthan Royals getting bundled out for 138, even this score proved too much for the team has now lost four consecutive matches in IPL 2020.

Asked if they believed they could defend the target because of the poor run of the Rajasthan Royals at the half-way stage, Shreyas said, “IPL can surprise you at any point so we do not take any team lightly. For every game we come with our plans and try to execute them.”Speaking about his approach to captaincy and how it feels to lead the Delhi Capitals, Iyer said, “I am enjoying captaincy because the players make it really easy, especially the bowlers. Even the way the support staff is managing the team meetings is commendable.

“I think the mixture in our team is really good and we have worked really hard on this. I am happy with how we are progressing and hoping to maintain the momentum.”

The Delhi Capitals will next face the Mumbai Indians in what will be a clash between the top two teams in IPL 2020 so far.
