IPL 2020: AB de Villiers joins Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle in elite list, becomes 8th batsman to score 9000 T20 runs


AB de Villiers became the first South African batsman in T20 history to breach the 9000-run mark on Saturday during Royal Challengers Bangalore's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2020. AB de Villiers breached the milestone when he reached the score of four during RCB's innings in Sharjah on Saturday.

AB de Villiers is placed eighth in the list of all-time scorers in the T20s. Chris Gayle leads the list with 13,572 T20 runs from 410 matches followed by Kieron Pollard (10,425), Shoaib Malik (10,145), Brendon McCullum (9,922), David Warner (9,712), Virat Kohli (9,324) and Aaron Finch (9,275) are ahead of the RCB stalwart.

De Villiers has played 13 matches in IPL 2020, scoring 338 runs at a strike rate of 171.21, packed with 26 fours and 20 sixes. ABD has grabbed four half-centuries. He made his debut for South Africa in 2004 and represented the national team over the course of 15 years. He was also named ICC ODI Player of the Year three times.

With de Villiers and Virat Kohli contributing consistency and their bowling unit stepping up, RCB are on the verge of making it to the play-offs. RCB are at the 2nd spot with 14 points from 12 matches.
