Interestingly, this is the first-ever smartwatch by Fitbit to get ECG support. As per reports, Fitbit had received regulatory approval for the ECG feature in the United States last month but now an ECG app is being rolled out to users in Europe and the United States. The Fitbit Sense was announced in India but it has not gone on sale yet in the country. The ECG feature has not been announced for the Indian users yet and the wait could be longer than usual.
Users in Europe and the United States might get the ECG app automatically but in case, the feature is not visible. The users can download it manually from the Fitbit app on the phone. The app helps in analyzing the heartbeat and check for atrial fibrillation (AFib). The sensors that are present in the watch's frame and biosensor core record the heartbeat and checks for AFib.
To check your heartbeat, you can place your finger on the watch’s corners and wait till it records your heart’s rhythm. Once it has recorded your heartbeat, you can check the report on the Fitbit app, and then if the need arises share it with your doctor.Apart from the ECG sensor, the smartwatch also comes with an EDA sensor that is used in managing stress. As per the company, no other smartwatch has this feature till now. There is also a skin temperature sensor, which as the name suggests detects the body temperature of the user. Considering the COVID scare around us, this is one of the most important features that would help in detecting the early symptoms of the virus. The smartwatch can also detect a user's SpO2 levels, which keeps the oxygen level of the user in check. The breathing rate and resting heart rate that is measured by the Fitbit sense can help users detect early COVID symptoms.
