Poco X3 at Rs 16,999: Why it could be worth buying

Phone maker Poco launched its latest flagship, the Poco X3 in India only yesterday. The phone has been announced in India as the successor to the Poco X2 after the device was previously been unveiled in select European markets earlier this month.

The Poco X3 is one of the most impressive smartphones on a budget that you can get your hands on right now. As a smartphone that starts around the Rs 15k price point, it brings a lot to like. There's a lot of impressive hardware, including a 120Hz display, Snapdragon 732G SoC, and a quad-camera set-up, and all at an aggressive price point. In terms of the price, the phone is priced very aggressively, with the device retailing for a starting price of Rs 16,999 for the entry-level 6GB + 64GB variant. Here's why it makes for a worthy buy at this price.

Super-fast display

One of the most interesting features of the Poco X3 is its big display that's one of the fastest at this price point. While we're yet to review the device, on paper, the Poco X3's panel looks very impressive as the display is claimed to refresh at a fast 120Hz per second. This display is also quite expansive in size at 6.67-inches and can run a maximum resolution of 1080x2340 pixels.

For the display, Poco hasn't used an AMOLED panel. Instead, the panel used here is LCD in nature. However, with the company also claiming that it's HDR10 certified, and capable of registering 240 touch samples a seconds, the Poco X3 should make for an interesting device to play games and watch movies on.

Under the hood, we have Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 732G chipset which the company claims brings substantial performance gains over last year's Snapdragon 730G. As explained by Qualcomm, the 732G brings about 15 per cent more processing power than the 730G.

Interestingly, this is also the first phone to use this chip, so this should give the Poco X3 a definite advantage over its competitors. The chipset will be paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. Keeping this core hardware cool will be the company's LiquidCool 1.0 Plus system.

Quad cameras

For cameras, the Poco X3 gets a quad-camera setup on the back. The camera module here comprises of a 64-megapixel Sony IMX682 sensor with f/1.9 aperture along with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. The device also has 2-megapixel dual cameras for depth and macro shots. For the selfie, the Poco X3 gets a single-lens camera setup.

While we've seen more powerful cameras than this set-up even on phones around the same price point, the expectation is that Poco's refined camera algorithms should help make photos from the device rival more expensive camera phones.

Big battery and other features

Another big feature of the Poco X3 is its big battery. As opposed to the international variant which gets 5160mAh battery, the Poco X3 in India gets a 6000mAh battery pack which can be charged using a 33W fast charger supplied in the box.

Apart from this, the phone also gets an IR blaster and a fingerprint scanner on the device. There's also an IP53 rating and sheets of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the Poco X3 for protection.

Aggressive price

Apart from all the features and hardware, the biggest reason to buy the Poco X3 is its aggressive price. As it stands, the phone is priced very aggressively, with the device retailing for a starting price of Rs 16,999 for the entry-level 6GB + 64GB variant.

The mid variant with 6GB+128GB variant will be available for Rs 18,499. The higher-end one with 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage will be up for retail for Rs 19,999. Much like other Poco smartphones, even this one is a Flipkart exclusive that will be available for purchase from September 29.
