TikTok’s latest stickers allow users to donate to charitable causes

Short video-making platform TikTok has introduced new ways to raise funds for COVID-19 relief organizations. The social media platform has officially launched Donation Stickers which the users or creators can add got their videos and live videos. This would allow fellow users to donate to the causes related to coronavirus pandemic. Since TikTok has a huge userbase, it would be much easier to encourage people to donate for the causes they most care about.

Coronavirus pandemic has crippled the world in many ways. The virus is not only life-threatening but it has made it difficult for low wage workers to make their ends meet as one-third of the world is under lockdown. During such times, it is difficult for the majority of people to fetch for themselves. With this move, TikTok hopes to raise funds for people in need.

“Donation Stickers are interactive and can be embedded directly in videos and TikTok LIVE streams, just like other creative effects in TikTok. When a user taps on the Donation Sticker, they will be guided to a pop-up window where they can quickly and easily submit a donation without having to leave the app. Donations are enabled by Tiltify, a charitable fundraising platform, which processes donation transactions securely through their platform,” the ByteDance-owned company said in a statement.

TikTok has partnered with charities including the CDC Foundation, Meals on Wheels, the James Beard Foundation, the British Red Cross and Help Musicians, No Kid Hungry, National PTA among others. The company said in a statement that they have partnered with organizations that support vulnerable groups.

To kickstart our launch of Donation Stickers, we’ve partnered with organizations whose missions support vulnerable groups that are reflective of some of TikTok's thriving communities yet have been deeply impacted by the health and economic damage caused by the pandemic. And to further support these impacted communities, TikTok will be matching user donations made through the Donation Stickers until May 27. The hashtag #doubleyourimpact will automatically be added to videos and TikTok LIVE streams that use the stickers,” the statement by TikTok read. The TikTok donation stickers are currently available in the US, UK, France, Germany, and Italy. They might launch the feature in other countries soon.
