Vivo APEX 2020 revealed: This phone has a gimbal camera, no ports, in-display selfie camera and what not

Vivo APEX 2020
Every year, Vivo has a new concept device to show under the APEX concept series and after showing a portless phone design last year, Vivo takes things to the next level with the APEX 2020. Vivo had been teasing about this phone for some time and it's now finally here. The APEX 2020 carries on from the APEX 2019 with some exciting new technologies that we may see on many Vivo phones this year. The prime one among all the features is the gimbal camera, which is a first for any smartphone.
Everyone demands stable cameras on a smartphone and so far, the best implementation you can get is an OIS system. However, OIS has its limitations and Vivo wanted to solve the problem with a gimbal-like arrangement for the camera. The phone uses a 48-megapixel gimbal camera which Vivo says can achieve stability in the front and back as well as the left and right directions. Some massive improvements are promised in terms of stability but there's no visual example given.
Along with the gimbal camera, the APEX 2020 also features a 16-megapixel telephoto camera that can do an optical zoom of 7.5x, which is higher than all other phones stuck at 5x optical zoom. Hence, you can expect better clarity while zooming in, even when the hybrid zoom is concerned. Vivo has also given the APEX 2020 a selfie camera after removing it from last year's model. However, this is an in-display camera sensor, similar to what Oppo and Xiaomi have shown so far. When needed, the front camera will be visible as the display pixels will let light pass on to the camera sensor.
Vivo says that its camera can remove unnecessary people in the background from photobombing your shot using AI algorithms. Vivo says that the feature works effectively even in the busiest of backgrounds and that means you will be able to have photos with the perfect backgrounds.
The display in itself looks quite interesting. The APEX 2020 gets the same waterfall display we saw on the Vivo NEX 3 last year. However, the display now bends to 120-degrees on the sides and that means you can see the display from the back of the phone as well. The display measures 6.5-inches and uses an AMOLED panel as expected. The phone does not have any physical speakers but it uses Vivo's Screen SoundCasting technology to emit audio through the display itself. And unlike before, the technology now transmits audio via the screen instead of the glass, which translates into better audio quality.
Since the phone does not have any port, it relies on wireless charging this year. Vivo has built a Wireless Super FlashCharge 60W in the APEX 2020. What this means is that it will be charging the battery wirelessly with 60W of power, which is the same as many fast wired charging technologies. This also makes it the fastest wireless charging technology in the smartphone market today.
As for the rest of the specifications, APEX 2020 relies on the same Snapdragon 865 chip as every other premium phone this year and before you ask, it comes with support for 5G networks. There's 12GB RAM as well as 256GB storage on board if you were wondering. Do note that the APEX 2020 is a concept device and it is not going on sale anytime soon.
