Facebook Messenger is all set to get a new look soon. The app is reportedly removing the Discover tab and also disassociating with chatbots in order to provide a better user experience. The idea behind getting rid of the Discover Tab was to keep the app simple and to catch more attention.
As per TechCrunch, in the new design, there will be a People section where you will be shown large squares featuring your friends on Facebook, who were recently active on Facebook or updated any stories. Next to the Stories tab, there will be a tab that will feature the names of friends who are online.
The Messenger app currently has three sub-sections, the Chat Tab, People Tab, and the Discover Tab. The Chat tab shows the names of people of you have recently interacted with, the People Tab only focuses on your friends who are active on Facebook and the Discover Tab basically shows you the names of different brands, magazines, etc based on your interaction with any of them. For example, if you had interacted with any of the pages on Facebook, it will appear under the Recents section on Discover.
The TechCrunch report states that the changes were made so that people can spend more time communicating with their friends and family rather than exploring chatbots for shopping or playing games on the app. The app is meant for communication and hence it should be only used for conversing and nothing else. The report also reveals that the instant games that keep popping up on Facebook Messenger will also be removed simultaneously Facebook spokesperson told the daily that the new design will start rolling out soon, without the Discover Tab and a different People Tab.
"The changes are part of a larger Messenger redesign that reorients the People tab around Stories as Facebook continues to try to dominate the ephemeral social media format it copied from Snapchat," the TC report read.
That’s not all; Facebook is also planning of tweaking the Messenger Kids, the app that was launched in 2017. The new features will give more control to parents over their kids’activities on the Facebook Messenger Kids app. Earlier this month; the company added a privacy feature on the Parent Dashboard. The feature will allow the parents to snoop into their children's’ accounts and keep a check on who they are chatting with.
