Breakthrough in Pulwama terror attack investigation, NIA nabs suicide bomber's helper

In a major breakthrough in the Pulwama terror attack case, National Investigating Agency (NIA) has nabbed the man who helped suicide bomber, Adil Ahmad Dar, in planning the attack which killed 40 CRPF personnel last year.
The arrested man has been identified as Shakir Bashir Magrey, who is an overground worker of Pak-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. As per NIA, 22-year-old Shakir Bashir Magrey owns a furniture shop in Kakapora area of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. He allegedly provided shelter and other logistical assistance to the suicide-bomber Adil Ahmad Dar.
As per the agency inputs, he was introduced to Adil Ahmad Dar in mid-2018 by a Pakistani terrorist Mohammad Umar Farooq who recruited him as a full-time OGW of JeM.
During his initial interrogation, he has disclosed that on several occasions, he collected and delivered arms, ammunition, cash and explosive material to the JeM terrorists including those involved in Pulwama attack.
Accused Shakir Bashir Magrey has further revealed that he had harbored Adil Ahmad Dar and Pakistani terrorist Mohammad Umar Farooq in his house from late 2018 till the attack in February 2019 and assisted them in the preparation of the IED.
His shop is located near the Lethpora bridge, and as advised by Mohammad Umar, he started conducting reconnaissance of the movement of CRPF convoy on Jammu-Srinagar Highway in January 2019 and informed Mohammad Umar and Adil Ahmad Dar about it.
Further, he was also involved in modifying the Maruti Eeco car and fitting the IED in it in early February 2019.
During the investigation, the make, model and number of the car used in the attack were ascertained by the NIA to be a Maruti Eeco car through forensic examination of the tiny remnants of the car, which were seized from the spot during extended searches. This has been corroborated by accused Shakir Bashir Magrey.
The accused was produced before the NIA Special Court at Jammu on Friday and remanded to 15 days of NIA custody for his detailed interrogation.
First arrest in over a year
NIA has been under heavy criticism for not filing the charge sheet in the worst terror case. The charge sheet was delayed as five people, identified as conspirators, were all killed.
A top officer told on the recent first anniversary of the deadly attack, "The key conspirators have been killed and there is no arrest, hence there is no rush to file the charge sheet."
However, the agency was keen to establish a connection between Pakistan and Pulwama terror attack. Another breakthrough has helped the agency establish that connection. NIA has recovered the phone details of Kamran alias Ghazi Rasheed, the mastermind of the Pulwama terror attack who was killed on February 18.
The phone details have given insight into the terror conspiracy and have provided other phone numbers which can be promising leads for the agency. One of the phone numbers recovered is of Omar - a Pak-based Jaish commander.
The phone also had videos on how to make bombs using RDX. NIA sleuths say that they now have solid evidence that explosives came from Pakistan.
